Dineli Jayaweera
Dineli Jayaweera is a Miami-based high school scholar and emerging public-health advocate committed to advancing health literacy through Health Education Literacy Project USA- HELP-USA, a not-for-profit initiative focused on making evidence-based health information understandable and actionable for families and communities., where she is the co-president.
She is a senior in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at Coral Reef Senior High School. She served as a Student Ambassador supporting school outreach and community-building, and she has progressed through multiple executive roles in Model United Nations—from Treasurer to Vice President and President-Elect (2025–2026). She also contributes to inclusive campus culture in Special Melodies, supporting students with special needs through community events. Dineli pairs leadership with sustained service: she has supported children’s education in Sri Lanka through ongoing sponsorship and has prepared meals monthly for Camillus House for more than three years and she volunteered on a medical mission in Peru, in a charity clinic. She is the silver night nominee for Coral Reef High School.
Behind the Platform
Jane Sonali Jayaweera
Jane Sonali Jayaweera is an undergraduate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, She is Co-President of HELP-USA (Health Education Literacy Project USA). Jane’s academic interests are grounded in substantial research and clinical exposure. As an undergraduate researcher, she was part of the Henry G. Steinbrenner Scholars Program at the University of Miami, Project to Cure Paralysis. Clinically, Jane completed an internship at the University of Miami Tower Hospital under the Chief Medical Officer. Her service includes harm reduction work with SHAC’s Syringe Services Program at UNC Chapel Hill, supporting intake, navigation, and linkage to HIV/STI testing and treatment referrals, and volunteering with Miami’s IDEA needle exchange program.
She developed her passion for health literacy while working on the above-mentioned locations. She initiated HELP-USA in collaboration with Dineli Jayaweera, a senior at Coral Reef High School. The overarching goal was to launch a health literacy program to help South Florida and beyond in a culturally competent, easy-to-read way. The public-facing website will cover topics such as prescription use, consent, mental health, nutrition, public health preparedness, and preparing for a doctor’s visit.

At HELP USA, our mission is to boost health literacy, especially in underprivileged areas where health disparities are most prevalent. We are dedicated to empowering individuals and communities by improving access to clear, actionable, and reliable health information. Through partnerships with individuals, healthcare providers, educators, and organizations, we strive to bridge health literacy gaps, prevent health problems, reduce unnecessary medical costs, and equip everyone to make informed decisions about their well-being.
